This program initially started in 2013 and was implemented under President Obama. It offers work permits and protection from removal for people brought here as children, who have been in the U.S. most of their lives, have no significant criminal history and who have already graduated high school or are in the process of doing so. This, apparently, is too much for the Republican party who has been fighting in court for nearly a decade to take this very minimal benefit away from the most sympathetic group of immigrants in our country. It already went to the Supreme Court once and they ruled 9-0 in favor of DACA, a politically-motivated Trump appointed judge in Texas and the 5th Circuit has stopped it again and the litigation remains pending.
If you have DACA it remains very important to keep it current. While new applications are not being approved, you should keep renewing yours if you have it already. If you get married or have need to travel their may be other options available to you to get a green card and you should contact an attorney immediately.
